Description:

Most astronomy observation logging books and software use LV Magnitude as one of the measures of sky clarity. These charts make that easy to measure and also to check to see changes as the observing session progresses. If purchased with one of our Telrad Finder Chart these can be bound into the volume at the back. Just ask!
Northern: consists of 4 skycharts printed on 2 sheets and laminated.
Chart 1: Centered on 0h, 35 deg (about 40 deg wide)
Chart 2: Centered on 6h, 35 deg (about 40 deg wide)
Chart 3: Centered on 12h, 35 deg (about 40 deg wide)
Chart 4: Centered on 18h, 35 deg (about 40 deg wide)
Southern: consists of 4 skycharts printed on 2 sheets and laminated.
Chart 1: Centered on 0h,-35 deg (about 40 deg wide)
Chart 2: Centered on 6h, -35 deg (about 40 deg wide)
Chart 3: Centered on 12h, -35 deg (about 40 deg wide)
Chart 4: Centered on 18h, -35 deg (about 40 deg wide)
For most observers in the Northern hemisphere some part of these charts is near zenith at any time. Stars are shown down to about 6.5 magnitude and most stars have their magnitude listed (with no decimal point) next to the star.
To determine LV-Mag, pick a spot near the zenith, locate it on the sky chart. Look at the dimmest star you can see, and check the chart to determine its magnitude.
In less than a minute you have a measure of the seeing conditions.
Either the Southern or Northern LVM chart costs $10 plus $2 shipping in the US. Ask us about shipping to other countries, it is not much more.
