I used to fly a single engine Cessna 152. I would enjoy touch and goes and crosswind landings.

Once when I was with my instructor, we would go out over the Everglades to do some full power stall/recoveries and once we got so close to the sawgrass, we scared the crap out of these poor guys in an airboat!!

All my instructior was concerned about was these guys getting our tail number!!

I was partners in a Cherokee 235 before I moved to Oregon. It was sure a nice little plane....four passenger...lots of speed and low fuel consumption. I owned it with my friend since 1988....it is the only investment that actually increased in value.....was sorry to sell my half, but hard to own an airplane that is 900miles away. The investment actually trebled in that time.

hi Brian `n Bud.

my "active" flying experience is limited to paragliding.

I did that for more that 5 years very intensivley.
I really enjoyed it with each and every fibre of my heart.
it is an undiscribalbe experience to watch the mountains rise on the horizon with every turn You make while ascending into the sky. I was up at 9000 feet once,...pretty cold...but unforgettable! I had an overview of more than half of my country (Austria) terrific!!! You hang under the glider,...it seems rather far away, hear a bit of noise when the wind strokes the tissue, fell completly free,...

as You said Bud. I also did everything to lear as much as possible to avoid stupid errors. most people hurt themselve during start or landing procedures - or - NOt having done their "homeexercise" before flying, like assessmant of the flyingsite, weather conditions aso.

I have climbed many mountains with the backpack (25 kg) and usually in 1 of 5 cases I decided to start. (inconvenient conditions,...wind,etc...)
I have seen some guys stalling and discripplimng their limbs,...their own fault,..?... I don`t know.

well - but even I had a serious situation when I had gotten into a area where there were 2 different types of air-currents (corret term...?) and my glider swapped away all of a sudden - rushing right under me
and I started to fall - luckily I fell close beside the glider and not into it - otherwise I would not be able to tell You this story.

well after 5 minutes descending I landed and never went back.
I miss this very much - but I have learned my lession.
my wife begged me to stop and I headed her call.

Brian, that movie is really harsh,...
but on the other hand - it is reality - life.

best regards
Dietmar

PS: You know more intersting movies - now`s the time

I would have loved to own my own plane at the time I was learning to fly. The amount I paid for renting them was getting pretty expensive but if I had went into it with a few other guys it would have been not too bad.

Yeah, 900 miles away Bud is quite a commute!!

Hello Dietmar..

That is QUITE a story with you paraglider!! I don't know if I would EVER recover after an episode like that!!

As far as the link to the video that I posted, I actually thought that it was very well done. This is also why I put the **disclaimer** in the first post. It does show several mishapps but I especially like the 747 crosswind landing and at the last second "correcting" itself to align with the runway. That pilot did an amazing job!!

You are absolutely right! that landing is the best I have aver seen. forgot to mention this! the pilot sure is one of the most layed back guys in the world - carrying a huge responsibility on his shoulders and succeeding in this stunt!

best regards
Dietmar
