Question Av-H1

Didn't see any better area to post this question, and it's a bit of a gripe, so here goes:

Last night, while searching for good potential targets using Starry Night Pro Plus 6.0.1 I noticed an open cluster labeled Av-H1.

I spent 20 minutes imaging it and then moved on.

Today, I am trying to research this "alleged" star cluster.

I'm not able to find it in TheSky6 and a Google search turns up nothing.

Starry Nights lists it as being in their "Star Clusters" database but I find no mention of such a database in the manual. Also, I have individually selected each of the available databases to which a search can be limited and none of them return this result.

I've also tried Starry Nights LiveSky.com link and none of the searches there turn up anything.

FWIW, here are the coordinates: RA(J2000)23h 37.200m, Dec(J2000) 48° 27.278' and the angular size is given as 20 arcminutes.

The catalog number in Starry Nights is listed as: Custom 1

What's up with that?

Ken,
I looked at the digital sky survey using the coordinates you furnished.
Using a field of view of 60 arcminutes, it showed indeed an open cluster in that location of about the size you mentioned.
But the name Av-H1 did not show up in any of the dss locaters. Neither Simbad nor NED have such a name listed in any catalog.
I am going to try and see if DSS has another identifier for it. That is, as soon as i can again figure out how to get DSS to lable objects in it's images.

Thanks for looking Adolph!

When I get my gear working properly I'll have to spend some time familiarizing myself with this "star stuff." I don't know squat about it - I got into this just because I wanted to take some cool photos

If the cluster has no official name, and you got a good image of it, you can call it Miller-1.

Apropos nothing whatever, this is one of the reasons I always encourage folks to turn off their goto now and then and just go exploring. There are millions of sights up there that don't show up in any catalog, but are still great to look at.
