Try not to let it bother you. I was banned a year ago next month for no apparent reason. I tried several times to contact Herb and others at Astromart and AT&WB to find out why but was never even given the courtesy of a reply. I'm doing just fine without York and Astromart; actually saved myself a lot of time and money.

Placing an ad here is an alternative, BUT AM is were the traffic is.
I think ebay is worth considering.

If we all listed stuff for sale by another person, there wouldn't be a need for lot's of people to join. How about you tell you friend to open an account on AM?

BOOM - banned, and they haven't answered my emails about this.

I called Anacortes and the guy that answered played dumb (he was quite good at it).

So - here I am! I found this site by googling "banned astromart" this morning. Looks like a great site.

It's a shame that AM is so popular - I bought a scope in September via an ad there myself.

At any rate, needless to say, Anacortes will never get a dime from me.

cheers,

Dave B.

Let's not forget Cloudy Nights for posting classifieds. There are no fees. I would not recommend AM to my worst enemy.

Enemies - friends it makes no difference, AM is the best place to buy and sell Astro gear I've found by a very wide margin.

"Best" is a pretty strong word. There are too many places to buy and sell to label any of them as "Best".

I picture Herb as the ( Giant) little girl in Twilight Zone that has a little village with real people and she plays with them like toys. I guess that's how he gets his kicks, pretty sad when you think about it.

Exclamation Re: Another Astromart Victim

Hey there,

I just got the boot from the 'Mart a few weeks ago. I got a deal on a small case load of RED LED Lightsticks. My attempt to sell them off at cost to my local astro club flopped. So I figured I'd get rid of them on the 'Mart. I apparently ran afowl of the rule that you cannot appear to be making a profit, even if you are not. My second ad EVER on the 'Mart was pulled after about 60 hits. and I was unable to log on again unless I purchased a "10 pack of small business/atm/dealer ads" when I wrote to Anacorte about it I received no response whatsoever! I spent quite a few hundreds of $ buying stuff off the 'Mart's advertisers. When I try to sell something though. PFFFT! my membership evaporates! The first time I tried to sell something (a 7mm Nagler e.p.) I just got a lot of flak from people about why I would only take PayPal, or why I must hate Canadians, cause I wouldn't ship to Canada (I can't figure out why... if Americans come from America Why don't Canadians come from Canadia!) I guess Astromart just doesn't want to deal with PEOPLE!

Clear Skies,
Frank J. Cernik

I have always been of the opinion that astronomy tends to attract people whose intellect on average is higher than most hobbies. It never ceases to amaze me how many people get kicked off Astromart either because they never bothered to read the TOS or read it and ignored it. Then to top it all off, once it happens they run around spouting "all I did was......or I was just trying to......finished by a lot of badmouthing either AM or Herb or both" when in reality all they had to do was read and abide by a few simple rules that are in place to protect everyone including them.
