Smile Re: Alignment trouble (sort of)

Just a couple things to check:

1. Make sure the proper date and time are set. The scope does not save these. Make sure you enter EDT as we did EDT earlier this year. (this is the single most common reason for align fail)

2. Enter Long and Latitude. Go to heeavens above website and get the long and lat for your location.

2. Use two known star alignment i.e. Polaris & Denebola, These are about how far apart you should be. You should get align successful on these two stars.

3. Use a 30mm - 40mm eyepiece. The object should be in that field of view.

If this does not work you amy call me toll free at 1-877-348-8433 on Monday at AVA.

Thanks for the tips. I was able to fix the alignment problem and in my excitement I made an even bigger mistake. My scope uses a dovetail bracket to attach the tube to the mount (I'll wager you can guess what comes next). I was rushing to get some views in about a week ago and didn't latch the bracket properly. The scope is currently at Celestron with a 4-6 week repair time.

Here's a tip for everybody. Scopes don't bounce to good. I'll consider it a lesson learned; albeit an expensive one.
