Default lpr filter

Can any one tell me if this is common I own a 4 refractor by celestron & a new c6s from the same Co, when I tread my lpr filter on either one and I do this cause live in middle of Miami I tend to get something like a red beam effect on some stars, by the way I use the filter on the right angles not direct on the eyepieces, thanks for your help.

Have you tried putting the filter on an eyepiece? I'm not certain what you mean by "a red beam effect" but it sounds like you might be seeing light reflected back from the filter to a previous surface and then back from that surface through the filter.

Thank you for advice on tryng direct to eyepices, and thats exactly what my question was in response to the effect is like when you are using one of those red pointers and does not happen with every single star.

If it is happening with brighter stars but not dimmer stars then the aforementioned reflections are a good bet.
