Hey Brian, Bob,
That 'd be me I think, I worked for the big C from 98 to almost 2006.
Sorry I haven't opened this section till now.

I don't think can be of much help though, I know they had no coatings
on the corrector in the early 70's and had a " Special Coating " sticker
applied to the tube on top right next to the corrector housing in the late
70's The coating was a simple magnesium fluorite till about 84 when you could pay extra for " Starbright Coatings "

They serialized the optics but we never had access to any records
of which tube the optics went in, if there were any. They weren't computerized back then.

Well, doggone, John, the mystery employee comes forth, and it's you! Appreciate your comments.

I did order Bob Piekiel's CD book per Uncle Rod's recommendation on CN, and it was well worth the $40. It's a "must-have" for Celestron owner's of all vintages, models and sizes. Apparently, Celestron had facility moves and natural disasters and all sorts of reasons why they lost track of things. Too bad, in a way, but it sure hasn't impaired the performance of my trusty little C8. It's a "keeper" in any event.

And, Rod Mollisse's SCT Buyer's Guide is well worth the time to download from his site. Give it a look if you haven't seen it.

Still another resource I came across is Company Seven's library. They have the early seventies C5 and C8 Owner's Manuals available for download, along with a host of other resources.

Thanks again John, and CDS!

Bob

Bob,
slightly off topic here, but you will love the AN. Not sure where you will have obtained it but down this way the guy to deal with is the guy that makes them, Gary Kpf, and a top bloke he is too. I used mine on a recently sold AP600E, and now on a dob based newt. Perfect system.
Regards,
Gary
