Default ASGT Auto-Guide Cable

Anyone able to help me, (and Joh, AKA Spit) as to the correct cable to fit between the ASGT mount he has and his computer. I assume it is an RJ11 at the mount end, and a DB9 (or RS232) at the PC end, correct. Suppliers??

Hi Gary and Spit,

Michael Swanson maintains a site that has information for all of the various goto Celestron mounts. Really great stuff...he also has some software downloads that are very useful.
It is called the Nexstar users site:
http://www.nexstarsite.com/index.html

The free software is his Nexstar Observers List...very slick...the only thing I found that would work with my U2K SCT scope.
http://www.nexstarsite.com/NSOL.htm

Here is the link to the main PC control stuff...it's in the menu at the top of his home page:
http://www.nexstarsite.com/PCControl.htm

Here is the link to the PC control cables:
http://www.nexstarsite.com/PCControl...mmingCable.htm

This site has a ton of information on it on these mounts....the handcontrols..the latest firmware...how to update them...guiding issues...just about everything. He has a complete area on which programs support the celestron mounts...including the new PHD software.

If his stuff is helpful, drop him a line and let him know....pretty helpful guy.

bud

Hi Bud,
thanks, again, always there to help.
If we can sort this for John, he will be able to auto-guide at last.

i had this site saved on my computer- matter of fact i was looking it over all day yesterday re-reading it and also ended up at M swanson's site, along with shoe string astronomy-- i think bud understands how thick i actually am- LOL, im going to email mike, tell him 'what i have' and have him send 'what i need'- this is probably the most sensible solution so i get the right cable part!

Yep, and if you are e mailing him, perhaps get him to describe how to get it all running as well. A plug for him within the forums wouldn't hurt, especially if he is helpful.

ok, older thread butttttttttttttttttt- heres the lastest- i ordered a camera (almost a clone) to the Q guide, needless to say mine doesnt work- LOL, so 'how' good they are i cant really say, anyway- i tested guiding with my Nexiamge webcam and it works just fine using a WO66mm- im using PHD as the guiding software which naturally 'stretches' the guidestar somewhat- for the cable now- i simply use a serial plug going into my comp, the other end is a 4 pin phone plug going directly into my handcontroller- it works!!- so i can eliminate parallel cables, shoestring adaptor box, etc- all i need to do is plug in the single USB webcam cable, and hook the comp up to the handcontroller

ok heres the latest- my comp blew up and i had it repaired, when i put it back together i noticed the serial plug had a 6 pin adaptor to it-- this is what it looks like http://www.nexstarsite.com/PCControl...mmingCable.htm funny thing is, i ordered this cable to guide with- but you see it has a 6 pin adaptor on the serial plug- and the plug i got attached to it is a 4 pin phone plug- it fits- but i cant see how an assembly like this can operate-- for the record- this is the phone cord that came attached as i bought it
