Default Southern Glob

Hi All,
I am just learning this CCD imaging thing, and the added complication of colour is just about the end.
Took this recently, amongst the longer than normal period of poor weather we seem to be suffering.
NGC104, better known down here as "47 Tuc".
Now if I could only get some decent weather to continue with this learning curve.
Regards,
Gary

Was this "luminance" only? Nice start.

That's a great image Gary.. I definately would NOT call that a start as your focus and tracking appear spot on!!

Thanks Brian,
a steep curve it is, but enjoyable just the same.

Neil, it was an LRGB, and from memory something like 5 minutes of each, I will check.

I actually thought that big globs like this were easier/better with the DSLR, but I also used the 20D for this (on another night) and was disappointed when I saw the results. I am sure seeing is a big factor as well, perhaps not to the extent that it is with planetary, but there just the same. Mind you cloud is the biggest factor lately,
Gary

Gary, that is very nice on the tracking and focus...very sharp......the color is very muted on my monitor...not sure if more saturation is needed or a reinspect of the processing to bring more of the color out.

Congratulations on a superb image Gary. I wish mine were 1/10th as good. My weather has not been cooperating lately but boy do I need lots of practice.

Hi Bud,
thank you. I will try "tweaking" the shot, and see. I was happy with it, but am also open to suggestions.
Frank. Thank you as well. Keep at it, it takes practice, and lots of luck.

Yes...try just a bit of increased saturation. Also, if you've not calibrated your monitor, you may want to give that a try.

Neil.
not sure how to calibrate the monitor.
About 12 months ago I jumped ship, and went iMac, and will never go back.
This however means I still have to have a PC for image capture, and processing.
I do all the capture and processing on a decent desktop, which I wheel out to the scope. After I have captured and processed (Maxim DL), I then use CS2 with the Mac. I'll fiddle and see what happens from there.

That is a wonderful image Gary! I am attempting at doing some ccd work myself but still can't figure out which filters to get. Maybe I would have been better off with a one chip color camera.
