Default IC 434 and NGC 2024 The Horse and Flame in Orion

hello all,

This is a combination image of Ha and Lum....taken over three nights.

larger sizes:

Telescope: Epsilon 180ED
Camera: SXV-M25C
25@8min acquired with AstroArt using CGE mount
Lum only split from One shot color
15@8min ha using 13nm astronomik filter
Images processed in ImagesPlus and Ha and Lum combined in PSCS2

I wanted a pure lum and ha image, as I like this group/area in mono/greyscale. I took the luminance from the Oneshot RGB and then added a few hours of ha to this for added definition.

I'll probably add the color back in once I've gotten a bit more color information.

as always, comments and suggestions are always appreciated,

Hello Bud.. I never tire of viewing images of the HH region. IMO this is one of the most beautiful regions to image. Superb!!

Another stunner Bud, I am inspired. I have just tried this object, and while mine is nowhere like yours, I think the answer is two-fold. Newer, more sensitive camera, and LOTS of exposure time. Looks like this is going to be another black-hole for my wallet.
Regards,
Gary

thanks, Brian and Gary....and Gary, it does get expensive, but is is also a very satisfying hobby.........
I whined about the cost to a friend once, and he said..."Really, just be glad you didn't have to buy a new bass boat"..his was about $30,000 and he only gets to use it on nice weekends.

Hi Bud,
I hear you, and have always had that view, but somehow it still hurts to cough up for the likes of a new camera.
I have an old ST8, (non E), and I seem to never get a decent image, even with 10 minute subs, and over an hour of total time (with an F4 camera lens).
I am entering Epsilon-Land soon (this week hopefully) and it will be interesting to see if there is any change. maybe I do need a new camera?
I am hoping that the 20D will slip onto the Epsilon nicely as well.

Gary, I think you'll find that the Epsilon will work great with the 20D......The Epsilon, from my understanding, was first made for the dslr's....you can buy factory adapters for the cameras, but need to have then made for the ccd cameras. Should work great.

Hi Bud,
hope so. I am looking forward to this new acquisition, and largely it is thanks to Brian, as usual, (gotta love that guy).
I am sorely tempted to "mod" this 20D. Additionally, I may look at a newer more sensitive CCD, to replace the ST8, maybe.

Thanks Gary but I did the easy work hooking you up with my astro-buddy that had the scope!!

Let me know when you receive it and I can't wait to see your "first light" images.

Maybe so, but it was still appreciated. And of course the first images will be here. I need to tap into that Bud's knowledge, he is setting the standard here. I wonder if he needs an assistant?

No worries Gary, I was happy to help!!

Yes, Bud's images are absolutely superb!! He has put his Epsilon 180 to good use to say the least. Honestly, his images are among the finest that I have seen to date using that scope!
