Default Rosette in H Alpha

I shot this image using my Remote Scope system. The equipment used was a STL11000M, Tak FSQ-106ED and Paramount ME. The filter is a 4.5nm Custom Scientific H Alpha filter. Total exposure time was 120 minutes with 10 sub-exposures.

The image was calibrated and stretched using Maxim DL.

Regards,

Dave Tandy

Nicely done, Dave.....I really do need to get back to the site and see more about the basics of using your setup.

Bud,

Thanks for the kind words.

I just received my 16" RC optics from Star Instruments last evening. I should have the 16" up and running within the week. I'm really excited to use it and see how well my scope design works under the stars!

I'll post some images of the complete scope.

Dave

Neil,

My remote setup is in northern Alabama about 15 miles outside of Huntsville. Check out my website at www.remote-scope.com.

Keep up the good work. I always enjoy looking at your images!

Regards,

Dave

Again, sweet shot, Dave. Who made the mechanics for your scope. I know that Star Instruments does everyone's RC optics...are you doing the rest yourself?

Regards...Neil

Thanks.

Neil,

Star Instruments made the optics. I designed the rest of the OTA and had a machine shop make the components. I made the carbon fiber tube myself.

The OTA is carefully baffled for chips up to 35mm format and the tube (sans focuser) with optics weighs in at about 78 lbs without rings. The carbon fiber tube is ultrastiff and it actually looks pretty sharp considering I'm not a professional and I made it in my garage. I used a vacuum bagging process to make the tube.

The mirror cell is an 18 pt flotation cell and I have a push-pull collimation arrangement for each optic. I also included three fans to help cool the primary.

I'm anxiously awaiting the 3.5" Feathertouch focuser that will complete the scope. It is WAY overdue but I'm sure it will be worth the wait. The rear cell has been machined to fit the Feathertouch so I have no choice but to wait since no other focuser will fit! I know that Moonlite is developing a large, low profile focuser so I may go with that focuser if I make another scope. It would give me a bit more room for accessories such as adaptive optics or an off-axis guider.

Once I get the focuser and camera on the scope, I plan to run a few tests to see how well the ota holds collimation as well as to see how temperature changes affect focus. Also, I will do a large TPoint run as that will provide insight into how stiff is the overall setup.

If the scope performs well, I may actually try to sell a few.

Regards,

Dave
