Default Variable Star and nebulosity of GCVS V0390 cepheus

Hi Friends,

I haven't posted many images lately....I had some nice weather
recently...the seeing wasn't that good, but I was desperate to try
some of the newer gear.
The variable star is at the center of the elephants trunk tip
area...but everyone shoots IC1396 so I focused on the variable star .
This was taken using the TAK FRC 300 at F8 and the SXVF-M25C camera.
The camera was binned at 2x2 for the luminance portion....and this
luminance was then added to unbinned color for a bit of increased
resolution.

Here is the luminance only image:

larger sizes:
IC 1396 Luminance

there are a few larger sizes available from the pull down on the left.

Here is the OSC color image with the above lum added:

larger sizes:
IC 1396 LRGB

The FRC and SXVF-M25C combination is at about .7 arcsec/pixel,
unbinned....when binned 2X2 it is approx 1.4 arsec/pixel...this still
exceeds my seeing on the coast of Oregon.....so binning the Lum
doesn't seem to affect the detail/resolution, but increases/doubles
the exposure in the same amount of time that I would shoot unbinned.

I also have some nice widefield of this area with the TAK 180, but
have been hoping for some more time to finish a mosaic of the area..it
is a huge area....hopefully I'll have time in the next month or so.

Here is a very widefield of the whole area taken two years ago:

IC 1396

and a very, very widefield of the area including SH2-129 taken last year:

Cepheus Area IC 1396 and SH2-129

any comments or suggestions are appreciated,

hi bud,
first off - WELCOME back! I know you have commenced gathering data on about a dozen objects but weather never permit to finish one single object.
it is a pain.
so, I am happy with you you could at elast do the elephant trunk.
I find it cool your image scale is pretty much the same as in my image train with the 9"f/9 and the H16.
as always I am deeply impressed with the amount of colors you get with your m25c. and now with a much slower system that you were using all the years. obviously the mewlon and the m25c are very well matched in your hands.
imaging at 0.7 with the OSC gives you the chance for real aggressive (post)-processing for luminance and the best chance to get perfect colors of tiny objects like the stars.
it is just too bad seeing does not let you take full advantage of the moderate oversampling, bud.
but, come time, come better weather, hopefully.
the L-OSC version looks very pretty! a typical 'Bud'-image, I'd say! you did not get rusty at all!
as for the luminance let me suggest to apply some kind of selective sharpening to the stars, that would let them shine a bit more and give the image the touch of more crispness (is this english?)
anway - love to see one image of yours again!
hope this is gonna become routine for us again!

thanks Diets,

One of the things you work with in Oregon is pretty poor seeing......but I love the area.

I'll probably give this a rework and I'll keep an eye on sharpening the stars a tad,.....thanks for the good criticism.

Very nice job, Bud. Yes, the color data seems very good and matches the luminosity quite well.

Glad to see you back!...Neil
