| Looking for honest opinions on Baader eyepieces in terms of quality, clarity any problems or not and etc. Not looking for vendor hype or "I know this person who"...I want opinion of those folks who have actually used the eyepieces on a regular more-than-once basis. Thanks! Last edited by AstroImaging_KindaGuy; 12-23-2007 at 08:24 AM. |

| I have used on several occasions the following Baader Planetariums: 8mm, 13mm, 21mm. I am completely satisfied with these three. Double stars, moon, nebula, Mars, star cluster. Nice detail, no pin cushion, sharp to the edge, coma non existent. I have used these in my SV102 APO, pre-ED series, F8 scope. Black background. On really bright objects, I seem to pick up a little halo, but nothing offensive. Image detail is quite sharp. I just received the 36mm Aspheric. It is a beauty at less than half the price of a Nagler 31mm, (269.00 from OPTCorp). The moon, Orion, and star fields are wonderful. I did see some pincushion on-axis when viewing Mars, but this is really inconclusive since some soft clouds were moving around on the 25th. However, on everything else there was no pincushion whatsoever. I need more time at the eyepiece to rule out or in the issue of pincushion. The FOV seems much larger than 72 degrees. I really bought this eyepiece for my LX200R 8" that should be arriving in a few weeks. I have heard, but cannot concur that these eyepieces work best on longer focal length scopes. As for my SV102 APO, I am totally pleased with the performance of the Baader 8, 13, and 21. I like them so much that I also ordered the 24mm that should be arriving on the 27th or 28th. More about it when I have a chance. Before I tried binos I owned and used for several years Naglers exclusively. In the above scope I always used a Nagler 26mm T5, 17mm T4, 12mm T4. These are all wonderful eyepieces. I have also had numerous other T6 eyepieces: 5mm, 7mm, 9mm, 13mm, and two 16mm T5s which I used in binos. One Radian and one Panoptic. When it comes to Televue, they are premo. However, for the cost difference, I am extremely happy with the Baaders and do not intend to upgrade unless I feel like spending another serious chunk of change. Hope this helps, Kins |
