Brian,

I don't envy you and the other judges. When you have astro-imagers the likes of Eric, Zathris, Dietmar, Bud and Phil submitting images of this stunning quality, how are you going to choose? First prize must go to each and all...

CDS!
Bob

Perhaps it’s a matter of comparing apples to oranges. Maybe the imaging contest should be broken into categories. B&W, RGB and narrowband. Or perhaps Nebula, Galaxies and wide field. Or more fairly by equipment class. While my images are getting better, I never post on the Yahoo Sbig Group because the bulk of the images posted there are done by people using Paramount ME mounts and 20" RC’s and STL cameras. My little SCT, G-11 mount and ST8-XE just can’t compete. I do however post images to my local club that rival or beat anything anyone else posts. A year ago I had a 300D and a CG5 mount and my images where not as good as the ones I post now but I enjoyed taking every one.

It would be a shame for fellow astrophotographers to be reluctant to post there images because their equipment can’t compete with some of the better equipped contributors. If that was the issue we can all put our scopes and cameras in the closet and download Hubbell images off the web.

Just my $0.02

Zathris….

I absolutely agree Zathris. This is why the judging will NOT be based soley on image quality but on a variety of other factors.
