| Hi I have had a go at reprocessing my image of the Pelican Nebula in emission line colours as it was a bit noisy and the colours too "psychedelic" to say the least. The results are below. Thanks to everybody who offered some tips, I'd be interested to know what people think. I prefer the reprocessed image as it appears more natural. Regards Gordon ![]() ![]()

| Hi Bud Nice to hear from you again, I couldn't see any obvious lines on my laptop screen but I suspect any lines are due to a combination of the following 1 intermittent cloud when I was imaging 2 Not enough subframes 3 Not long enough for each subframe 4 Poor processing skills (the most likely cause) as I am very much a novice in this department as can be shown by my first effort at processing this subject I am in the process of doing the North America Nebula in my backyard at the moment so keep an eye out for a future post Best wishes Gordon

| hi Gordon, I guess "lines" wasn't the right discription.....it has a definite pattern noise.....when I showed it to my wife she said it looked like it was raining...and I guess that is an apt discription. I would get this, at times, with my SX cameras.....I usually just unplugged the usb cable and reset it and it would go away....not sure really what causes it. best regards

| Hi Bud I think the lines are due to one or both of the following 1. not enough subframes and not enough time on each subframe leading to 2. Over stretching in the processing Personally I don't think it is due to the camera as I haven't had it in any of my images where I haven't over stretched but it is something I will keep an eye out for Best wishes Gordon

| Bud, it has been too long since you imaged *unguided* <vbg>. I believe it is the combination of: 1) the slight offset, in a continuous direction, of one image to the next 2) lack of perfect calibration of the sub frames - leaving in the hot/cold pixels I got a lot of this in my initial, unguided, Meade DSI days <g>. OTOH, this is a good shot, Gordon. To gain some more "color separation", take a look at the AIC or NEAIC presentation on my web site in the Tips section. If you give me your e-mail address I can send you a sample tweak. Regards...Neil
