Default STL 11000 C2 price increase??

Anyone notice that the STL11000 Class 2's are being listed for $6995 vs the initial price of $58xx.. I would have thought the price would remain constant or decrease based on the success of the C2 based cameras :-)

Any thoughts?

Hello Leon and its great to see you on Astroclassifieds.com!!

Yes, SBIG recently raised their prices on the STL-11000 C2. From what I was told from SBIG, there are several reasons for the price increase.

The main reason from what I understand is that Kodak raised their prices substantially on this chip. Supposedly SBIG purchased a large quantity of chips just prior to publicly releasing the C2 cameras. Now that all of these chips from this initial purchase were depleted, they were no longer able to secure the same cost as they did.

For those that purchased these cameras for 5895.00, they did indeed get one heck of a deal!!

The price isn't the biggest problem - availability is. I've had one on order now for over 2 months. In November SBIG said they'd be delivered in December. For the past three weeks they have been saying they would be delivered "In two weeks."

The ordering of an STL11000 is the closest I've come to personally experiencing Zeno's Paradox.

Waiting is indeed an issue Ken :-)

I'm also looking at the Apogee U9000 camera as an alternate. Still doing research on that one at the moment.

regards,
Leon
