| Has anyone used MaxDSLR from Diffractino limited? I am thinking about getting a software package that can control the DSLR for astro imaging. Since I already use MaxIm DL, getting MaxDSLR seems logical, but wondering if it perfroms as advertised and if there are other "better" alternatives available. SZ |

| SZ: I've been using MaxDSLR for a while now and it works quite well with my EOS 20D and Hap Griffin cables. Do you have any specific questions regarding its function? Forrest |

| I think Ken Miller uses this package so hopefully he will chime in here and give you his impressions of this software package. Quote:

| I have procured and used several packages, including MaxDSLR, in conjunction with a Canon 400D. I'm not terribly happy with any of them and I'd tend to phrase the question as "Which package am I likely to be least dissatisfied with?" The answer to that is probably dependant upon how many other features of MaxIM you intend to use. If you are doing autofocus and guiding in addition to image acquisition then I'd say MaxDSLR is probably your best bet. If you only want image acquisition then I'd recommend ImagesPlus. In my opinion ImagesPlus is better supported (through an active Yahoo Group) and they integrate support for new cameras much faster. They also support a wider array of operating systems and provide that support sooner. If you have more specific questions, post them and I'll be happy to respond.

| Cyanogen has a plugin to alow you to use your existing Maxim DL software. It is only $60 as opposed to buying Maxdslr. I use DSLRFocus when using my 300D and like it very much. It doesn't have any image processing tools, but you can use Maxim after aquiring the images. It has a good FWHM focusing routine and can automate the image run. For $45 it is a bargain. Zathris.... |
