Default Astreya

I was wondering if Astreya could have a forum the manufacture section. They are a manufacture of APO lenses 76mm-180mm and custom apo lenses. Their glass is used in AM Astrotect italy and sold through in the USA through Toptelescopes also other scope makers in europe use their glass.

Thanks,

Jim Fusco

Hello Jim.. I received your PM regarding this but did not have a chance to get back with you yet. Let me check with OPT and Adirondack to see if they have any issues with this. If this is okay with the other sponsors then we will add this manufacture to the list.

Hi Frank,
Astreya has been around since 2002. The company before was silverstar. This is where the first quadruplet 130 and 152F/7 and the EDstar 180F/9 started. The owner died, Andrey Strakhov is the owner now and master optical designer, purchased the company since. His background is extensive and impressive. Before Astreya he design most of the newer intes maks and mak/newts. At Astreya he is a hands on designer/ maker. Lately he redesign some of the lenses there and I would like to share. Astreya offers a 76mmF/6.6 OK4, 102mmF/8 OK4, 130mmF/7 + 152mmF/7 quad airspace and the 180F/9. They are making a run of the 180's and 102's now. I'm basicly projection and visual my friend Greg does some CCD work with his 152 here http://www.pbase.com/ghartke .

Jim, Is Intes and Intes Micro two separate companies or just one? I was never able to get a clear understanding on this.

I have owned in the past a few Intes Micro Alter 703's. It seems that the optical/mechanical constancies with these scope varied quite a bit.

Hi Brian,
This is a curve. I believe it was first intes, the the guys broke up and became intes micro, santel and mirage. At that time that's when Andrey left I think. If you notice all have simular paint jobs and black coatings and corrector coatings. I have the impression that the correctors and mirrors with all of them come from a simular source too and are made to order. I just recieved a Santel mk91 from russia in December, and it's a smoker. I have mix feelings about force cooling because the optics are so nice I cringe thinking if dust gets in there. I have the sital mirror to help with cool downs, but regardless it's a treat to used when conditions are right.
The scope came wrapped in a heavy duty bag with a custom wooden hinged case. I was surprised how nice the case is. I could see where customs did their deed, losing paper work in france and touching the scope. Being so shipping was delayed, ( I took off to pick the scope up), I had to keep the scope with customs for 4 days and was charge storage. I was glad to pick it up at the airport. I think this is where if happens where these scopes get damaged at customs. The focuser is the crayford type, greaseless. I like and I don't, and plan to replace it in the furture, I like gear type crayford focusers and more travel. The cover plate seems almost air tight with a very snug fit. The scope is very HD. This scope has 2 adjustments if needed, the main and secondary mirrors. I think it weighs 25lbs if I recall.

Hi Brian and Jim,

many thanks to you for the Astreya section on the forum.
I think it will be interesting for many amateurs to have a possibility to get info about Astreya company and its activity in APO and scope-making.
I hope owners of our APOs will take part in the section.

Some words about history.
Intes was the first private company which made telescopes in the USSR.
It was established in 1988. In 1993 some guys left Intes and established Intes-Micro. Intes manufacted scopes till 2003. In 2000 was established Santel and later on - STF (Mirage). All this guys worked in Intes.
I worked in Intes too and left it in 1998. So Intes was motherland of all this companies.

Best regards,
